Utility Recovery Specialist

Take confirmed findings from claim to credit by working with utility billing departments and regulators on your customers' behalf.

Finding an error is half the job. A recovery specialist files the claim, answers the utility's questions and follows it until the refund arrives or the dispute is closed. You will work from the claim playbook set by the VP, Recovery Operations, and handle a portfolio of claims across electric, gas and water utilities. Your day is mostly written correspondence and phone calls with utility billing and commercial account teams during US business hours, with escalation to the state regulator when a utility will not move. You keep customers informed, and you protect their relationship with their utility.

What you will do

  • File refund claims with utilities under the customer's letter of authorization, with complete evidence packets.
  • Follow each claim on a set cadence and record every contact, reference number and promised date.
  • Answer utility questions with tariff citations and bill detail, working with tariff analysts on hard points.
  • Prepare and file complaints with state utility commissions when claims stall, following our escalation steps.
  • Reconcile credits and checks received against claims and report recovered amounts to the finance team.
  • Give customers clear status updates and flag anything that could affect their utility relationship.

What you bring

  • Three or more years in accounts receivable collections, billing disputes, utility or telecom expense audit, or claims.
  • Excellent spoken and written English, and a calm, professional phone manner with US business contacts.
  • Ability to keep a large number of open items organized without missing follow-ups.
  • Comfort reading bills and basic tariff language, and willingness to learn more.
  • Availability for US Central or Eastern time working hours.

Nice to have

  • Experience with utility billing departments or commission complaint processes in the US.
  • Experience with a ticketing or CRM tool for case management.
  • CPA, CMA or similar finance qualification.
