Senior Tariff Analyst

Read US utility tariffs and decide whether a commercial bill applied them correctly. You own the rules behind our audit checks.

Every claim Trace Global files starts with a tariff question: which rate schedule applies to this meter, and did the bill follow it? You will work in the Tariff Research group under the Head of Tariff Research, turning rate schedules, riders, demand ratchet clauses and power factor provisions from US investor-owned utilities into precise, testable rules. Your rules run on every bill line we audit, and your reading of an ambiguous tariff decides whether a claim is filed. You will work daily with recovery specialists, who bring the utility's answers back to you.

What you will do

  • Translate published tariff sheets, riders and commission orders into structured audit rules and keep them current as utilities file changes.
  • Review flagged bills and decide whether the finding is an error, an acceptable interpretation or a data problem.
  • Quantify the overcharge for each affected billing period and document the calculation in the evidence packet.
  • Support recovery specialists when a utility disputes a claim, including written responses citing the tariff.
  • Build the tariff library by utility and state, noting back-billing and refund limits that apply.
  • Review the rules in each release with engineers and give acceptance sign-off.

What you bring

  • Four or more years analyzing utility tariffs, rate cases, energy procurement or commercial energy billing.
  • Working knowledge of demand charges, ratchets, time-of-use periods, power factor and metering multipliers.
  • Strong spreadsheet skills and comfort reading SQL queries.
  • Clear written English, since you will write for utility staff and customer finance teams.
  • Careful habits with numbers and sources, and a record of showing your work.
  • Willingness to work some hours overlapping with US Central time.

Nice to have

  • Experience at a utility, a regulator, an energy consultancy or a utility expense management firm.
  • Degree in electrical, mechanical or energy engineering, or an economics degree with rate design coursework.
  • Familiarity with interval data and Green Button files.
