Senior Software Engineer, Data Platform

Build the pipelines that bring millions of utility bill lines into one normalized, auditable data model.

Trace Global receives utility bills as EDI 810 files, portal downloads, scanned PDFs and exports from bill-pay vendors, in thousands of formats. You will own the platform that turns all of them into one meter-level model that the audit engine can test. You will work with the VP, Engineering and the CTO on ingestion, normalization, storage and the data contracts between services. The system runs on AWS in the United States, handles customer data under SOC 2 Type II controls, and has to be exact, because every line feeds a claim that a utility will scrutinize.

What you will do

  • Design and run ingestion pipelines for EDI 810, utility portal data, PDF extraction output and ERP exports.
  • Own the normalized bill, meter and account data model, including versioning and backfills.
  • Build data quality checks that stop bad data before it reaches the audit engine.
  • Improve pipeline performance and cost on PostgreSQL, S3 and queue-based workers.
  • Write the tests, monitoring and runbooks that keep pipelines reliable.
  • Review code, mentor engineers and take part in the on-call rotation.

What you bring

  • Six or more years building production data or backend systems.
  • Strong Python or TypeScript, and strong SQL on PostgreSQL.
  • Experience with batch and event pipelines, idempotency and schema evolution.
  • Experience on AWS, including S3, queues and managed databases.
  • A habit of writing clear design notes and tests.
  • Comfort handling sensitive customer data under security and privacy controls.

Nice to have

  • Experience with EDI X12 or other financial document formats.
  • Background in energy, utilities, payments or accounts payable data.
  • Experience with dbt, Airflow or Dagster.
  • Familiarity with SOC 2 evidence collection from an engineer's side.
